A Patent Survey is the very first survey of a piece of land done at the time the first owner of the property is given title to it. Most patent surveys consist of a deed from the State to the property owner. In this area however many of our patent surveys were issued as grants from the government of Mexico or the local Empresario or from the Republic of Texas. Although these documents are often nearly 200 years old they are the legal title on which all future titles to the land are based.
