HOSPITALITY

Benedict writes and we can confirm it: "Guests are never wanting in a monastery." We try to receive each guest who comes to us, as Gospel and Rule teach, Texas Bluebonnets at Waelder, Texas as the person of Christ. We strive to honor the counsel: "While we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, but especially to those who belong to the family of the faith." (Gal6:10)

This hospitality is exercised in many ways. It may be a drop-in visitor, who has seen our sign on the highway. A member of our church seeking some kind of help. A grade-school or catechism class wanting to learn about our way of life. It might be someone who wants to spend a few days here, to pray and think as they share our lifestyle, however briefly. It might be someone who has corresponded with us, read our book and now wants to "taste" our life firsthand... or one of the many old friends we have made over the years renewing friendship. Or a study group...or...

In our slide-show, which we frequently employ to introduce folks to our life, there is a line that says: "You have fixed me... like a peg in a sure spot." The monastery should be a sign of stability in the community. It should be like a lighthouse on the edge of the sea, its light shining faithfully to all who come near. Pray God with us, this may always be characteristic of St. Benedict's Farm, even as He said: "He who receives you, receives Me." Amen.
