History In the Making

In 1966, after years of sharecropping and later working in the leather industry, Raymond and Hattie Maeker, sold the family farm in pursuit of the American dream. They set out to open a small grocery store. The small family operated store was an instant success.  And the fresh made smoked sausages, made daily from the same recipe used on the farm, attracted folks from all over Texas.

After just two years, these delicious  sausages became so popular that the market located in the back of the grocery store was too small.  In 1968, in order to keep up with the increasing demand, a new Texas inspected processing plant was constructed next to the store. Now we were able to sell our famous smoked sausages to other mom and pop stores.
Our First Plant - Built in 1968

After nearly 15 years in the grocery business, it became obvious we needed to concentrate on the sausage business.  In 1980 the family store was sold and Robert "Tinky" Maeker became the new owner of Maeker's Sausage & Processing Company.

Maeker's Sausages became so popular that in 1989 we entered our third  and present location. This new location complete with a slaughter facility, refrigerated sausage and processing facility, packaging facility and custom processing center,  would be nearly five times the size as our previous plant.

We are still a small family owned company and take immense pride in our "Old Fashioned Hickory Smoked Country Sausages."  Lots of things are secret around here, and we will never tell how many employees we have.  But we will say that many of our employees are family members.   Even the co-founder of Maeker's, Hattie Maeker, or "Granny", as she's known by the "crew", still personally inspects  Maekers Smoked Sausages.  If "Granny" doesn't like it,  it doesn't get sold.

Today Maeker's products can be found in some of the finest grocery stores in Texas.  Look for Maeker's products at H.E.B. and H.E.B. Pantry, Wal-Mart, Albertsons, Brookshire Brothers, and many other fine grocery stores throughout  South Central Texas
