United Methodist Men News

United Methodist Men met on Thursday, April 17th and had a great brisket meal, devotional, and program by Suzie Remmers and Mrs. Morrow from Norma’s House. The program had to do with current problems of child abuse in the home, school, church, and community.
The program for May is yet to be finalized, however we are working on the issue of personal transportation (PET) for handicapped victims of land mines during war and revolution in South African countries. Meeting time will be Thursday, May 15th.
UMM is committed to service and programs are built around areas which we can be advised and serve in some way.

EARTH ANGELS

Women who are interested in quilting make up a group called Earth Angels.  The group began as a result of 9-11-01 when 3 quilts were sent to a family of a New York woman killed in that tragedy.  They meet the first Thursday of each month either at FUMC or at someone’s home.

A typical meeting involves a devotional or inspirational reading followed by mentioning any person who may be in need of prayers or may be in need of being “wrapped in love” by the presentation of a quilt.  Members share ideas & any quilts they have recently made.

Activities of the group include: making baby quilts, making quilts & pillowcases for Norma’s House, making quilts to be used as fundraisers for area groups, going on field trips to quilt shows & quilt shops, learning about quilting tips & techniques, and going on quilting retreats.

Several quilts were presented in March and April with an ongoing project of designing quilts to be presented to wounded soldiers in San Antonio as a symbol of our gratitude for their service & sacrifices while protecting our nation.

Anyone, young or old, from beginner to advanced level, regardless of religious affiliation, is invited to join Earth Angels.  A good time of fellowship is guaranteed.
