Jesse & MaryAnn's Yellowstone Adventure
4167 miles on the motorcycle & 90 miles on a tow truck & 45 miles in son and daughter-in-law's SUV
Total trip - 4302 miles
Day #1, 425 miles, Sunday 7/18/04
We left Nixon at 6:30 am.  We stopped in Briggs for gas & breakfast, then drove on to Brownwood where we met Dan & Pam (my brother & sister-in-law) at the Skillet for a cup of coffee.  After a very short visit we hit the road again and rode to May for a pit stop.  While there Jesse talked to a local farmer who ask where we were going.  Jesse told him we were riding to Yellowstone and would be there in 3 days.  The farmer laughed and said we would still be in Texas in 3 days.  It sometimes seems that way, as it takes forever to get out of Texas!  Back on the road again, we stopped in Cisco for lunch.  After riding most of the day, we finally made it to Quanah, TX.  We rode several miles in the country to Jerri and Woodie's house.  Jerri had a big pot of delicious soup, fresh veggies, fresh fruit, potato salad, biscuits and "warm from the oven" cake.  Woodie made fresh peach homemade ice cream. Yummmmm!  We had a great time visiting and walking out to Jerri's wildlife area that she has created.
Day #2, 417 miles, Monday 7/19/04
We woke up early Monday morning, got dressed, packed the bike and drank coffee.  Woodie left for work and we went outside to take a few pictures with Jerri.

We left Jerri's house at 7:30 am, carrying 1 dozen fresh eggs for Summer, and arrived at Summer's house in Amarillo, TX at 10:30 am.  Summer, her husband McCloud & her sister Granlan met us outside as soon as we drove into their drive.  We gave Summer her dozen country eggs that Jerri hadf sent. Summer had prepared a delicious brunch of egg casserole, French toast dish (yummmm), fresh fruit, juice & coffee.  We ate and talked non-stop!  We then took pictures .

At 12:00 we made ourselves leave great company and continued on our road trip.
It was a beautiful day for a ride.
A few miles south of Raton, NM, we saw dark clouds forming with lots of lightening.
We quickly put on our frog togs and soon rode through rain and soft hail. It was over by the time we got to Raton, NM.  We realized that we had lost nuts on our exhaust system, so we stopped at the Honda dealership for replacements.

Jesse & 2 Honda employees.  They were very friendly and ready to help us.

It took a while to replace the nuts as the exhaust was very hot!

Next to the dealership was a view of the Raton sign on a mountain.
We rode on into Trinidad, CO, where we had planned to camp out at the park, but there was still a light mist.  So we decided to get a room for the night instead.
